About Us
Our roots are in The Slow Cyclist, where we have spent years perfecting travel that is deeply human, respectful of the planet, and profoundly memorable. But we felt a pull toward something more untamed - trips designed for those with an intrepid spirit and a hunger for the unknown. Born on the rugged trails of Romania’s Via Transilvanica, Wild Lines maintains the core values of community and care while pushing the boundaries of what an e-bike can do. We take the strain out of the climb so you can pour your energy into the wild landscapes we cross.
Our Story
It all began with a 412 day cycle from London to Brisbane.
In 2009, founder Oli Broom hopped on his bike to cycle 28,000 kilometres to Brisbane to watch the Ashes. He fell in love with bike travel - not just the cycling, but the kindness of strangers, the surprises around each corner, and the joy of watching the world roll slowly by under his wheels. He knew he wanted to share this joy with others.
In 2015, Oli moved to Transylvania, where he welcomed the first Slow Cyclists. Since then, we've welcomed guests to lesser-known gems across Europe, Africa and Asia.
In 2026, we decided it was time to branch into the not-so-slow, and Wild Lines was born. The fundamentals of The Slow Cyclist are still the same: a great cycling holiday means getting under the skin of a place, meeting its people, indulging in its culture and understanding its history and customs. Wild Lines is for those who want to embrace the adventure, both on and off the trails.
The Via Transilvanica
The Via Transilvanica is more than just a long-distance trail; it is a 1,600km lifeline connecting some of Romania’s most traditional and culturally rich landscapes and communities, even featuring 12 individual UNESCO World Heritage sites.
In the northern Bucovina section, you'll discover 15th and 16th century painted monasteries remote farmsteads and vibrant meadows. You'll be met with kindness - and maybe a little curiosity - being welcomed into homes with hearty local food and local liqueurs.
This project by the Tășuleasa Social Association has been the work of many, including over 20,000 volunteers, and we're proud to be supporting their vital work. 2025 was a landmark year for the trail, marked by the inauguration of the Terra Borza Teutonica extension. This new region is a testament to the long-term vision of our partners at Tășuleasa Social: a 20-year strategy to connect the entire country, celebrating heritage while breathing new life into rural communities.
Meet Sergiu, a Wild Lines Guide
Sergiu was the first guide we ever worked with in 2015 and has been a much loved member of The Slow Cyclist and Wild Lines teams ever since. He was born and bred in Sighisoara in Transylvania, where he still lives with his partner and young family, and spends most days cycling on the trails and tracks linking the villages of this beautiful region.
Sergiu's expertise in creating cycling routes in rural Transylvania led to him being asked by the founders of the Via Transilvanica to help them design a specific cycling route. This work has been instrumental in our partnership with him to create a Wild Lines experience in the wilds of Bucovina, north-east Romania.
When not guiding for us, Sergiu likes to race and travel. He gives back to his community by organising a racing event for local children every year, and by maintaining hundreds of kilometres of cycling trails around Sighisoara.
